Why not practiSe what you preach ? Rant!

I am getting slowly but surely angered by the incorrect spelling of practise (vb) and practice (n).

Our UK English is a rich language. Let us keep it that way! Let us not limit ourselves to one spelling……!

IĀ get really angry when I type reports in an English (UK) medium school and am told to ‘correct’ my reports and change my spelling.

Can we have an awareness campaign in ALL schools using UK English at the START of SEPTEMBER ?

Can we PIN IT ON THE NOTICE BOARD ?

Can we make a concerted effort to STAND UP TO ignorant language bullies who may hold a position of authority but can’t spell?

Can we practise being brave?

According to my copy of the Reference OED, both practise and practice are correct. Practice is simply the U.S. variation and it can be used as a noun or a verb.

You’re quite right BOTH are correct but practiCe is never a verb in UK English . It is a NOUN. the VERB has an S. My point is, if we are teaching UK spelling in a school, then we teachers should know the difference !
POI if a student in a UK curriculum school was to use US spelling in an essay that wouldn’t be a problem, but teachers ( ‘educators’ ! ) agree that they should keep to one rule and not mix the US and the UK- otherwise it would be difficult to keep an eye on errors.

Why not ‘practis’ and be dun with it?

Like emphasis, nemesis, synthesis, analysis, metropolis, parenthesis, and others? Why do we complicate it?
